Need some colour...GO ORGANIC

I'm always a little reluctant to bring out Hot Cross Buns and Easter treats early, much to my children's disgust.  In our home, Hot Cross Buns are saved for the Easter period in an important tradition that the kids look forward to.  Rituals and traditions are the backbones that bind communities and families and interestingly the world over, they are usually formed around food and meals.  You see every culture in the world uses special foods to mark special occasions and celebrate its significance in their lives.  Its these important traditions that over time have brought people together to bake, stir and cook with a common goal of celebrating life by creating foods that nourish the soul as much as the body.
In Australia we are so blessed with so many different cultures with so many rituals, that we can celebrate life with the people we love irrespective of our religious denominations by creating our own family rituals, one's that can be passed on for generations to come.  Even better your can re-establish your own families rituals as simplistic as they may have been, they are so important.

This week, we are all about Easter, I know a tad early, but this gives you an opportunity to get organised.  Bake some of your own Hot Cross Buns-in a ritual everyone around you will love... or try your hand at creating your own easter treats.  We will be posting some inventive ways to package and present your treats in an eco friendly but gorgeous ways as well as yummy healthy organic recipes to make.
Don't forget to stock up with the freshest organics for the the Easter period.

Want great skin...get digesting

Proper digestion is integral for maintaining optimal skin, so you are not just what you eat but what you absorb too.  So get to improving your digestion.

  • Enjoy an appertivo before you eat, this is something bitter in taste that stimulates digestive enzymes, try apple cider vinegar, lemon juice or some wild rocket
  • Relax when you are eating
  • avoid liquids with meals, it dilutes digestive juices
  • chew your food properly, that means till the food is as finely ground as possible
  • Stop eating before you get full, this gives your body space for digestion.
Today's tip of the day, brought to you by your friends @ The Organic Empire

Getting gorgeous skin is easy

This week we want to talk about our skin,  it is the largest organ in the body, a remarkable organ that not only protects our vital organs but also regulates temperature and detoxifies the body. Its a powerful interface between the mind, body and soul, and can show our stress, happiness, health and age.  Protecting and nourishing your skin, doesn't come from the outside, but the inside and like most mechanisms in the most part is affected by what we eat, don't eat and absorb.  Whether you need to maintain, preserve or repair your skin, its never too late to begin, and where else to start but your food. Before we proceed any further, we must stress the power of organic food to nourish the body and skin. Feeding your body pure clean foods with no artifical chemicals is so important for keeping at bay ageing and problematic skin as well as providing optimum nutritional content.

ORGANIC AVOCADO: containing glutathione, an amazing detoxifier and antioxidant, assisting in ridding the body of oxidised fats and neutralising free radicals.  They are also a great source of biotin which is essential for fat synthesis.  Add some guacamole to your lunch, or cut open sprinkle with salt and drizzle with lemon juice for a great snack.  Add some to your organic box

ORGANIC ALMONDS: containing the fabulous good fats, monosaturated fatty acids, and all the essential skin nutrients, including vitamin E, magnesium and calcium.  Great for relaxing blood vessels and in return nourishing skin. Munch on some for morning tea, or make some yummy salt and vinegar almonds.

GOOD FATS: These fats are so important for keeping the body hydrated, firm and looking amazing.  Known as essential fatty acids (EFA's), these are found in oily fish, walnuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, flaxseed and extra virgin olive oils. Go crazy with these, sprinkle the seeds on your salad or morning tea, drizzle everything with olive oil...its your friend, just make sure that its the Organic Extra Virgin COLD PRESSED olive oil.

ORGANIC KALE/SPINACH: These powerhouses are full of antioxidants, B vitamins, iron and zinc.  Zinc is a nutrient well renowned for normal cellular
growth. Add them to all your salad, make kale chips, add them to your smoothies and organic box this week.

ORGANIC PLUMS AND PRUNES TOO: A great source of fibre and keeping regular is essential for good skin, toxic build up in the body will ultimately show itself in the skin.

Avoid:

SUGAR: this doesn't just mean the refined processed varieties, this also includes any refined grains that turn to sugar in the body, so avoiding white pasta's, white breads, biscuits, white rice, these create inflammatory chemicals as well as robbing the body of vital nutrients.

BAD FATS:  These include the fried varieties, hydrogenated and all partially hydrogenated oils such as those found in margarine, chips, biscuits, donuts and potato chips amongst other foods.   These fats accelerate ageing and cause free radical damage.  Free radical damage causes cells to damage.

PROCESSED FOODS: Contain little or no nutrition and rob the body of nutrients in order to process them.  They are usually loaded with excess sugar and salt, which also damage and dehydrate the skin.

So this week, its all about your skin, we will have recipes for face masks to make using food, recipes for amazing health and skin.  Check us out on facebook for some inspiration. ORDER NOW to ensure your skin gets nourished this week;)
